Romanian Names

Postări Recomandate

But most names do end in an 'A' - yes?? Was just wondering.

Yes, they do. It's the rule of forming the feminine in Romanian. This rule applies to adjectives, names, etc.

For example, let's take some adjectives:

frumos (beautiful) becomes frumoasa.

ieftin (cheap) becomes ieftina.

And now, let's take some names:

Marian becomes Mariana.

Alexandru becomes Alexandra.

but there are also names that do not end in a...lets see: ... :cheer: ... Alis, Lili ,Mimi, Jeni , Catrinel , Aglae (although most people say Aglaia :o: ) Stefi, Cati , Beatrice , Nuţi ,Gabi . But all these names are usually shortened names ,or just cuddly names . Course' people choose to put the names officially in their children birth certificate, but this is another story :P Most female names are ending in a though .
