"Just brutal": Why America’s hottest city is seeing a surge in deaths

Summer burns in Phoenix!!!

Scorching pavement blisters uncovered skin. Pus oozes from burned feet and bacteria-teeming wounds fester under sweat-soaked bandages for people living on the street.   They might be the lucky ones.   Relentless heat led to 645 deaths last year in Maricopa County, themost ever documentedin Arizona’s biggest metropolitan area. The soaring number of heat mortalities — a 1,000 percent increase over 10 years — comes as temperatures reach new highs amid exploding eviction rates in the Phoenix area, leading to a collision of homelessness and record-setting heat waves.

The crisis has left local officials searching for answers in a region that regularly relies on churches more than the government to save people’s lives by offering them a cool place to hide from the desert air.

Almost half of the victims last year were homeless — 290 people. Twenty died at bus stops, others were in tents, and an unrecorded number of people were found on the pavement, prone as if on a baking stone. More than 250 other people — who tended to be older, ill or unlucky — died in uncooled homes, on bikes or just going for a walk.

“There’s no getting away from it,” said George Roberts, who goes by "Country" and lived on the streets of Phoenix until a year ago. “You just try to find some shade and hope it keeps you cool enough to live.”

Phoenix officials are trying to reduce this year’s death count — but their fleeting plans hinge on temporary funding. They’re using nearly $2 million in federal pandemic-relief funding to operate new cooling centers. Unlike previous efforts, the centers will remain open into the evening, or even overnight, in areas with high heat death rates.

In Julie 1994 la Gheorgheni in mijlocul lunii deodata s-a facut ger aproape.

usuce geamurile.

South Florida devastation after days of heavy rainfall seen in photos, videos as forecasters warn of possible 'catastrophic' flash flooding. Flash floods and days of rain have overwhelmed the region.

South Florida endures flash flooding, 2nd day of heavy rain

At least two people have been reported dead in South Florida this week after staggering amounts of rain fell in the region — and forecasters are warning that the storms, and with it flash flooding, aren't over.

The Florida Highway Patrol said two people died in a weather-related crash in Immokalee, about two hours west of Miami, according toCBS affiliate WINK.

The National Weather Service said that “heavy to excessive rainfall may bring considerable to locallycatastrophic urban floodingthrough Friday across South Florida.”

Meteorologists with theWeather Prediction Centerare forecasting between another 3 and 5 inches of rain on Friday, and aflood watch is in effectthrough Friday evening.

However, Sammy Hadi, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Miami, told the Associated Press, “The worst flooding risk was the last three days,” and that the “heaviest rainfall has concluded.”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday declared a state of emergency for Broward, Collier, Lee, Miami-Dade and Sarasota counties.

Many parts of Southern Florida have already been hit with over2 feet of rain over the last several days. Miami Shores, located in Miami-Dade County, hasseen over 21 inches of rain thus far.

Hurricane season just started on the East Coast, andup to 25 named stormsare forecast for the region. Although stormy weather is normal for this time of year, AccuWeather hurricane forecaster Alex DaSilva still thinks the downpour is odd.

“What is unusual is how much rain South Florida has seen in such a short period of time,”he said.

"The calendar may be showing a date in summer, but no one seems to have told the weather — with forecasters warning of

a "winter storm" for some areas despite it being mid-June.

Parts of Montana and Idaho were both hit with a "winter storm warning" by the National Weather Service (NWS), which published

a map on Monday showing which regions were to be affected. Up to 15 inches of snow was possible in some areas overnight,

the experts said, as they warned of the dangers for drivers and possible power outages.

This comes amid a strikingly diverse weather pattern, with other parts of the countrysuffering from heat waves, while others are

ravaged by fierce floods. Experts fear that climate change willmake extreme weather events worse.  The area flagged by the NWS

spanned a swathe of land encompassing both Montana and Idaho, with higher elevations predicted to suffer the worst of the storm."

alea adus de vanturi in zilele trecute.

Eu n-as planifica

Si cu asta a sosit si vara in Arizona, in partea de Sud mai ales!!!
