Being  a fan of Joe Lycett,  for the first time, I decided to try responding to an email scam, to see how it goes. I find it great comedy when successfully managing to string them along for a few days, so why not try it? I'll post the beginning of our email exchange here, and update as the conversation progresses (if it does). I'm posting it here as the entire conversation will be in English.

This should be a good laugh.

Aaaand...he replied. :)

I assume it's a guy. It's surely not Gaddafi's daughter, willing to hand me 27 million dollars. For anyone worried about doxing, I'm not doxing anyone; this is a fake account with fake details, seeking access to the banking info of any willing idiot.

So I'm about to reply with fake details as well, minus a photo and ID.

Sorry about the screenshots; they ended up in reverse order and I can't seem to move them about. If you're curious, please read from the last one upwards.  Edit, I sort of fixed it.

I replied with this, to have some time to make up BS details:

I replied. I gave "Aisha" the address of an abandoned cemetery in England and the phone number for Rochester Prison. And my made up last name is a synonym for "mausoleum".

Well, we now moved on to the next phase (giving me a fake email associated with a real bank, impersonating an actual bank manager,  and a fake form, to claim the money). When I email the fake bank manager they'll ask for ID, so I haven't done that yet. "Aisha" kindly reminded me I hadn't sent a photo yet, so I'm about to reply with a high school pic of Ted Bundy. I doubt anyone checks, since I gave ridiculous personal info and this a-hole still replied :) .

It's when they start demanding your ID and bank account number that the real fun begins.

"Aisha" also wants me to go house hunting, and I'm highly tempted to send a historical photo of Bedlam, but I guess I'll save that for the final email. Also, I'm not supposed to talk about it. "It's classified".

I shoulsd also add the name they gave me is of an actual bank manager from Benin.

So, today I finally replied and emailed their fake bank manager. I immediately got this hilarious reply:

I also replied to "Aisha", who had probably given up on scamming me.

This is starting to get really funny. I can't be bothered with screenshots (the email is too long anyway) so I'll just copy and paste.

"Dear  Gary , I acknowledge with gladness receipt of your message that you have already sent an application to the Bank, you should take heart for the dead of your Dogs. (...)

I need you as a life time business/investment partner whom I can confide more information and other hidden assets to my late Father. I want to be a silent partner believing that you will never betray the trust i have for you, as for me, i promise to always be faithful, sincere and honest. You will never in your life regret your partnership relationship with me."

The "bank" also replied with a long email, letting me know they would be in a board meeting to "organise the transaction". But the funniest part by far was this:

"This email and any attachments are confidential and are intended solely for the addressee. If you are not the addressee tell the sender immediately and destroy it. Do not open, read, copy, disclose, use or store it in any way, or permit others to do so. This message was sent to you through our automatic message loading system  but  due to poor internet network this message might enters in the SPAM/JUNK folder. Emails are not secure and may suffer errors, viruses, delay, interception, and amendment. Bank Of Africa and its subsidiaries do not accept liability for damage caused by this email and may monitor email traffic."

I'm sure they'll "monitor my email traffic", after they couldn't even check that I lived in a cemetery and my phone number was the booking office of a prison.
