The Romanian Senate"s committee for human rights on Tuesday issued a negative opinion on a bill requiring candidates for public office to undergo a psychological and psychiatric examination.

Committee chairman Gyorgy Frunda said the bill has no legal basis in Romanian or EU legislation.The bill also obliges people holding public office to undergo annual medical check-ups in order to keep their positions.The Government does not support the bill, arguing that forcing presidential and MP candidates...
