BUCHAREST / 15:59, 10.09.2008 Romanian wheat and rye output stood at 7.75 million tons in 2008, more than double from some 3 million tons a year ago, boosted higher crop yield, the Ministry of Agriculture said Wednesday.Average wheat and rye output reached 3.5 tons per hectare, up from 1.56 tons per hectare in 2007.The EU’s statistical office Eurostat estimated Romania’s wheat output would reach 2.8 tons per hectare this year, down compared to the EU average of 5.4 tons per hectare.
