XviD is an open source MPEG-4 video codec that compresses video, allowing a faster transmission on disks or a more efficient storage in the computer. We can actually call XviD an archiver for videos, just like ZIP archive for files. The codec removes non-important information from video for achieving very high compression rates while not affecting the good visual quality of the video.
