Description 7-Zip
7-Zip is a file-compression utility, a great alternative to WinZip. It unpacks various archive formats and can create TAR and GZ archives, used mostly on Unix and Linux. It also has an incredible ability to shrink files. Although the compression took longer, the files were up to 40 percent smaller then their ZIP equivalents. It creates solid and self-extracting archives, adjusts the compression level and sets password protection. The interface is extremely simple but realy easy-to-use and self-explanatory. It's main options include high compression ratio in 7z format with LZMA compression. It supports 7z, ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2 and TAR formats for packing and unpacking; ARJ, CAB, CHM, CPIO, DEB, DMG, HFS, ISO, LZH, LZMA, MSI, NSIS, RAR, RPM, UDF, WIM, XAR and Z for unpacking only. Although the program can be used by any type of user, it is actually suited for developers and for Linux/Unix users.
