Details
The 2000 psychological thriller film directed by Christopher Nolan is an adaptation of a short story, Memento Mori, written by Jonathan Nolan, Christopher's brother. Guy Pearce plays the main character, Leonard Shelby, a man suffering from anterograde amnesia. This condition impairs his ability of storing new memories.
The film has two parallel naratives. The one in black and white is told in chronological order and follows Leonard talking to someone on the phone in a motel room. The other one shows us Leonard's investigation and is depicted in color sequences put in reverse chronological order. At the beginning of each sequence, the audience and Leonard are unaware of the preceding events.
The two parallel sequences meet at the end of the film, solving the mistery of the picture of a man shot in the head shown in the opening scene.
