Cold Mountain is a war drama film directed by Anthony Minghella and based on the novel of the same name by Charles Frazier. The film stars Jude Law, Nicole Kidman and Renee Zellweger. The action is set during the American Civil War, when a wounded man deserts the army and tries to come back home to the woman he loves.

W. P. Inman (Jude Law) meets Ada Monroe (Nicole Kidman), the preacher's daughter. Unfortunately, they don't get the chance to better know each other as the Civil War begins and Inman is compelled to join the army. After a series of dangerous missions, Inman is injured and taken to a hospital. This is when he decides to desert and go back home to the woman he loves, Ada.

Meanwhile, Ada's father dies and she doesn't know how to work the farm. With the help of her neighbours, the Swangers and Ruby's (Renee Zellweger), Ada works the farm and prepares for winter. But she never cease to write letters to Inman, hoping to see him again.
