Chicago is a 2002 musical film directed by Rob Marshall. The film is adapted from the stage musical of the same name. The story explores the corruption in the administration of the criminal justice when it comes to celebrity criminal.
The film centers on Velma Kelly (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Roxie Hart (Renée Zellweger), two criminals waiting for their trials for murder. Velma, a chanteuse, killed her husband and sister after finding them sleeping together. Roxie killed Fred, her singing partner, when she realized he is not going to make her a star. They both end up in Cook County Jail and head for the same lawyer, Billy Flynn (Richard Gere).
When Roxie and Billy manipulate the press, turning Roxie into the celebrity of Cook County Jail, Velma desperately tries to unseat her rival. But when a third celebrity crime puts Roxie and Velma into the shade, they resort to any means necessary to get back into the spotlight.
