Details
2001: A Space Odyssey is an American epic science fiction film directed by Stanley Kubrick. The story is partially inspired by the short story The Sentinel by Arthur C. Clarke and revolves around a series of encounters between humans and a black monolith that apparently determines the evolution of human kind. Highly appreciated for its scientific accuracy, special effects and surrealistic cinematography, 2001: A Space Odyssey consists of four major sections.
The Dawn of Man deals with ape-like early humans that have an encounter with a black monolith, leading to species evolution. TMA-1 is the second section and portrays Dr. Floyd on a mission to the Moon, to investigate a black monolith similar to the one encountered by the apes.
Eighteen months later, 5 scientists are on the board of Discovery One spaceship, heading to Jupiter. During this mission, they have to deal with HAL 9000, the ship's computer, which tries to take control of the ship and distroy the humans on board. The final section of the film shows Bowman, one of the scientists from Discovery One spaceship, finding another black monolith orbiting around Jupiter.
