Capitolul 11
1. În vremea aceea era în tot pământul o singură limbă şi un singur grai la toţi.
2. Purcezând de la răsărit, oamenii au găsit în ţara Senaar un şes şi au descălecat acolo.
3. Apoi au zis unul către altul: "Haidem să facem cărămizi şi să le ardem cu foc!" Şi au folosit cărămida în loc de piatră, iar smoala în loc de var.
4. Şi au zis iarăşi: "Haidem să ne facem un oraş şi un turn al cărui vârf să ajungă la cer şi să ne facem faimă înainte de a ne împrăştia pe faţa a tot pământul!"
5. Atunci S-a pogorât Domnul să vadă cetatea şi turnul pe care-l zideau fiii oamenilor.
6. Şi a zis Domnul: "Iată, toţi sunt de un neam şi o limbă au şi iată ce s-au apucat să facă şi nu se vor opri de la ceea ce şi-au pus în gând să facă.
7. Haidem, dar, să Ne pogorâm şi să amestecăm limbile lor, ca să nu se mai înţeleagă unul cu altul".
8. Şi i-a împrăştiat Domnul de acolo în tot pământul şi au încetat de a mai zidi cetatea şi turnul.
9. De aceea s-a numit cetatea aceea Babilon, pentru că acolo a amestecat Domnul limbile a tot pământul şi de acolo i-a împrăştiat Domnul pe toată faţa pământului.

The Tower of Babel
1 Now the whole world had one language and a common speech.
2 As men moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there.
3 They said to each other, "Come, let's make bricks and bake them thoroughly." They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar.
4 Then they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth."
5 But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building.
6 The LORD said, "If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.
7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other."
8 So the LORD scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city.
9 That is why it was called Babel [c] —because there the LORD confused the language of the whole world. From there the LORD scattered them over the face of the whole earth.

Am postat si varianta engleza fiind si mai clara, in cea romana pasajul "şi nu se vor opri de la ceea ce şi-au pus în gând să facă", lasand loc unei interpretari limitate la chestiunea orasului si turnului - nu se vor opri de la orasul si turnul pe care le-au pus [deja] in gand sa le faca. In timp ce varianta engleza ofera o interpretare mult largita - nu se vor opri de la orice altceva isi punin gand sa faca.
"Ei" se temeau de capacitatile pe care oamenii le-ar fi avut in caz ca terminau ceea ce incepusera si isi pastrau unitatea.
